Navy Federal Credit Union and Acquisitions and Mergers Action

As of October 4, 2010, members of USA Federal Credit Union began transferring their accounts to Navy Federal Credit Union. The joining of the two credit unions is called a merger, but the name will just be Navy Federal Credit Union when it is all said and done.

USA Fed is located in southern California, with eleven overseas branches in Japan and Korea. Navy Federal is the largest credit union in the country with $43 billion in assets, 3.5 million members, and more than 200 branches, making USA Fed a relatively small addition.

The well-established Navy Credit Federal Union is the ideal financial organization to step in and take over operations for the ailing USA Fed because it is not only such a strong company but also so similar in nature to USA Federal. Military personnel have a unique set of financial needs, including access to their finances from some of the most remote points on the globe.

Staff from Navy Federeal Credit Union have been on hand at USA Fed branches to help those who wish to transfer their accounts in person. The changeover is a fairly quick and painless process. USA Fed customers are assured that their direct deposits and automatic payments will continue to be made and that their credit and debit cards will remain active, although account transfers will be complete by the end of the year and members will have a new account number, Navy Army Federal Credit Union routing number, and new cards for debit and credit accounts.

The merger should be positive for the members of USA Fed. Hopefully, it will also be good for employees. No plans of closing any branches or curtailing any existing services have been announced.
