Heat wave means cool cash for A/C firms, other businesses

Tips for beating the heat

High and dry temperatures can overwork air-conditioning units and car batteries. Here are some tips to help prevent untimely failures:

Air-conditioning units

— Schedule maintenance once or twice a year. This can detect problems on cheaper parts before they turn into big-money repairs.

— Change the air filter once a month.

— Keep debris away from the unit.

— Be careful when mowing or whacking weeds near the unit. Flying rocks can puncture or dent important parts of the unit.

Car battery

— Check battery for bulges, cracks and leaks and replace if needed.

— Clean terminal posts of corrosion, lead oxidation, paint or rust with wire brush.

— Have mechanic test battery and electrical system every 3 to 6 months

DAYTONA BEACH -- Scorching temperatures and the fifth-driest year on record in Volusia County might make most residents miserable, but for business owners who specialize in cooling people down, business is booming.

"We've seen a substantial increase in business because of the heat wave," said Eric Clark, manager of Sam's Auto Repair in Palm Coast. "I'll put it to you this way: About this time last year, probably 20 percent of my business was A/C-related. Now, it's 45 percent. It's just too hot for folks to really drive around without some way to cool off."

The auto shop normally sees that much air-conditioning business in late July and August, he said.

Residential and commerical air-conditioning companies are seeing a bump, too.

Wil Evans, general manager and vice president of R&R Industries in Holly Hill, said the roofing/heating/cooling company's five technicians are now working Saturdays, a day that they typically don't work.

"Last year we had a lot of work because of tax credits -- a lot of people traded for (air-conditioning) units that couldn't normally afford it," Evans said. "We're seeing now that they're changing it out because they have to."

Federal tax credits for air-conditioning units last year enabled savings of 30 percent up to $1,500; this year, the credits dwindled to 10 percent of cost up to $500.

For people who want to escape their homes or cars, the ice rink might look like a frozen paradise.

At the Daytona Ice Arena in South Daytona, manager Keith Smith has seen an increase in weekday attendance. It's mostly school-age kids trying to find a cold place.

Fix Those Dents using Ordinary House Materials

It cannot be denied that there are time when our cars can have car dents. This can be pain in the ass since it can take away a lot of your money and time. This is because you need to take your car in a car shop and wait for a couple of days just so that car dent can be fixed.

However, I bring you good news. You can surely fix those car dents by yourself. All you need to do is gather and use some of your house materials.

What you need is to fix your car dent is canned air, plunger, hair dryer, dry ice and rubber mallet. The thing you are about to use depends on how big the is the dent on your car. When the car dent that you have is small, about 3 inches in width, you can simply use the plunger and some energy. If your car dent is bigger than 3 inches, well you need to use either of the things mentioned above aside from the plunger. You can use a dry ice. All you need to do is put on an ice glove and place some dry ice on the dent. You can also use the canned air to use some pressure in fixing the dent or you can use the hair dryer with some aluminum foil to protect your car paint from too much heat.

If you find these things unbelievable, you can contact  dentmaster bridgend  and allow them to  fix dents  on your cars. Fixing  car dent s for them is just very easy.
