Stephen King in his own words. This actually does sound very interesting. Here’s hoping it isn’t one of the programmes that gets switched out on the CA feed of the channel.
I was a little confused by the first few words of the title, “TCM Lines Up Two New Original”. A classic movie channel having original (presumed next word to have been) series would just be so wrong but with most American cable channels aiming for general ambiguity i thought that this might be the next to fall. Please don’t scare us like that. Enough people already complain about SciFi’s generic ambiguous demise.
And about the obligatory company info…. since when the hell has Dreamworks been involved with The Borgias !!! Did Dreamworks buy up Octagon or Take 5 or Mid-Atlantic while i was sleeping?
Alumnus Wesley Whatley wins Daytime Emmy Award – discover.stetson.edu
Stetson University alumnus Wesley Whatley, associate creative director for the Macy’s Parade & Entertainment Group, won a Daytime Emmy Award on June 17 for the Outstanding Original Song, “Yes, Virginia (There’s a Santa Claus).”
Whatley composed the music and William Schermerhorn wrote lyrics for the song, which was featured just before Santa appeared in the 84 of July Fireworks in New York City.
An honors graduate of the Class of 2002, Whatley received Stetson’s 2010 Outstanding Young Alumnus Award. He is the former student of Professor Russell Franks of the Stetson University School of Music.
“Friday night at the Emmy’s was the culmination of many years of learning,” Whatley said. “I’m so grateful to the entire Stetson community, for my time of development on the DeLand campus, when songwriting became a true passion and to all who invested musically in me over the years.”
“Yes, Virginia,” performed by Ann Hampton Callaway, is available on iTunes at: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/yes-virginia-theres-santa/id399046392 . Whatley said that this version was written to go over the DVD credits; the parade version was a bigger arrangement done for the NBC Orchestra.
“Wesley’s music family at Stetson continues to cheer him on, and we toast him in this spectacular and significant recognition of ‘Yes, Virginia (There is a Santa Claus)’ as best original song at the Daytime Emmys,” said Dr. Jean West, dean of the School of Music.
“It’s a lovely, sweet song that I clearly remember hearing during the Macy’s Parade on Thanksgiving morning as I prepared my family’s feast — the parade really starts my holiday season,” West said. “Wesley and Bill Schermerhorn, fellow creative guru at Macy’s, share this well–deserved honor as composer and lyricist, respectively. Their songs have a special spark of joy, humanity and imagination, the same spark that many of us remember in Wesley when he was a student in the School of Music.”
In 2008, Whatley composed the song, “I Believe,” with lyrics by Schermerhorn, which was performed by Kermit the Frog in that year’s Macy’s Parade and was nominated for a 2008 Daytime Entertainment Emmy Award. It was published by Walt Disney Music Publishing and released as a holiday single. “I Believe” made its Carnegie Hall debut in 2009, performed by the New York Pops orchestra.
