Waterloo Arts Fest leads a weekend of don't miss shows
A sign of life on a street long written off for dead.
That was Waterloo Road when the Beachland Ballroom and Tavern opened at the beginning of the century.
Now look at it.
The main drag in Cleveland's Collinwood neighborhood has come alive as a strip of galleries and shops selling everything from records to arts, crafts and coffee.
On Saturday, all that liveliness spills into the street, thanks to the Waterloo Arts Fest. The ninth annual block party boasts bands, performers, DJs, food and arts vendors -- not to mention a neighborhood pride that has transformed Waterloo Road.
It starts at noon on Waterloo, which will be closed to traffic between East 156th and East 161st streets.
If you're among the 10,000 people expected to be there, I suggest checking out two stellar art shows:
• "Visual Music: Northeast Ohio Photographers Look at Rock and Roll" at the Zaller Gallery, 16006 Waterloo: The photography show documents six decades of rock 'n' roll and features great shots, from countless local acts to Prince, Mick Jagger and the Who.
• "14: The Exhibit": Set in the Key Bank Building, 15619 Waterloo, it features 14 installations by 14 artists, each in separate rooms. Each installation is based on a chapter in "14" a novelette by R.A. Washington.
The Waterloo Arts Fest ends with a 9 p.m. after-party at the Beachland Ballroom, 15711 Waterloo. For more info and a schedule of performers and vendors, go to waterlooartsfest.com.
Party in the name of pride
OK, so maybe the parade and rally are the anchors. But the 23rd annual Cleveland Pride Parade, Rally and Festival on Saturday should also include party in its name.
It hits Voinovich Bicentennial Park at noon, runs through 8 p.m. and boasts more than 20 floats and countless acts, which will perform on three stages until 8 p.m.
Acts will include the North Coast Men's Chorus, the Blazing River Freedom Band, singers, drag kings and queens, and burlesque performers.
Go to clevelandpride.org for more information.
A band for every porch
Yeah, kicking back and drinking lemonade and telling stories is fine and all.
But good luck doing that Saturday in Larchmere.
Yahoo, it's the 3rd annual Larchmere PorchFest.
The all-day bash places 30 bands on 30 porches in the Cleveland neighborhood. It starts at 2 p.m. and concludes with a concert at Shaker Square. Free.

Wedding Photographers Cleveland Ohio | Best Cleveland Wedding
This is just one of those weddings that you immediatly smile when you walk into, then you leave smiling. Then you smile for the ride home back to the studio. Then you smile for 8 hours in Lightroom and smile a bit more in Photoshop. And then when you are ready to blog, you start smiling again. If I could use one word only to describe this wedding it would be really, really hard, but I would use the word "JOY" and then I would include a bunch of pictures, so you could see what I mean. Let me start off by showing you a more romantic image from the day.
I've been excited for this wedding since these two walked into my studio about a year ago. They told me they wouldn't mind having some rain on their wedding day because it would be different. I also soon found out that her mom was florist, which I knew would translate to beauty. The main thing that struck me about Shane and Amy was the connection they had with each other and the genuine appreciation and excitement they had to spend the rest of their lives with each other. It's a beautiful thing to behold.
So here is the setting moments before the ceremony.
While Amy was getting ready, the guys were playing some cards. Shane seemed to be taking everyone's tees, at first
And some of these guys were having a really good time.
Others were having a hard time, and an unlikely suspect managed to win in the end.
On a sidenote, I was pleasantly surprised to hear them playing Mumford and Sons and Griffin House, two of my favorite songmakers. So that's what I listened to while processing the pictures.
Next, we stepped outside with the girls.
How about the shoes?!
And the bride...
And of course, the bouquet...
And my favorite of the day (at this moment)
And here is a shot from Nelli being all stealthy with her long lens. Love it.
