Work-Related Accident on an Offshore Texas Oil Platform Kills 1

The fatal work-related accident occurred on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, aboard a platform for energy research of technology on production A557 High Block Island, about 75 miles off the coast of Texas, WOAI reports.
According to the Office of Management of the ocean energy, regulation and enforcement (BOEMRE), a loading crane was a big piece of equipment on a boat working on the platform when a ramp winch cable apparently broke , causing the collapse of the crane.
The crane collapse caused a chain reaction, causing the crane harness to hit and fatally injured an employee.
The fatally injured worker's identity is being withheld.
The BOEMRE studied work-related fatalities.
The director of BOEMRE, Michael R. Bromwich said: "It was a tragic accident.Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased employee and his colleagues and friends. This incident provides a reminder of the most spectacular possible of what is at stake as we work with industry to ensure the highest standards of safety on offshore installations and do everything we can to minimize the risk of such accidents. "
