Mummers are coming to town
For the 17th consecutive year, North Wildwood is the summer home of the Fancy Brigades.
The 2011 Philadelphia Mummers Fancy Brigade Mummers Parade is being dedicated to Jack Keenan.
Here’s the schedule:
Friday, June 10 – Pub Crawl begins at 7 p.m. The featured pubs are: Casey’s on 3rd, #1 Tavern: Home of the Super Tully Nut, Anglesea Inn, Keenan’s Irish Pub, Echo’s, Westy’s Irish Pub, Flip Flopz Nite Club. Non-pub sponsors include Joe-Joe’s Pizza and Russo’s Market.
Saturday, June 11 – Fancy Brigade Old Fashioned Block Party takes place 3 p.m. on Old New Jersey Avenue with music, prizes and dance/strut contests.
The official start of the annual parade in North Wildwood is 4:45 p.m. Saturday at Second and Olde New Jersey avenues in the entertainment district. Festivities start at approximately 3:30 p.m. with North Wildwood's own Duffy Stringband and the Philadelphia Mummers Chorus entertaining as the crowds gather.
Featured brigades include the Clevemore Fancy Brigade, Second Street Shooters Fancy Brigade, Avenuers Fancy Brigade, Satin Slipper Fancy Brigade, Golden Crown Fancy Brigade, Downtowners Fancy Brigade, Saturnalian Fancy Brigade, South Philly Vikings Fancy Brigade (2010 champions), and the Jokers Fancy Brigade (2011 champions).
“We have a special connection with the mummers, and we look forward to their entertaining us every year. When the mummers arrive, we know the best part of summer is here,” said Mayor Bill Henfey.

On Friday, the Eagles and Miller Lite are celebrating St. Pat’s with an early pub crawl. The Eagles cheerleaders will be at both Finnigan’s and Urban Saloon to welcome crawlers, sign autographs and perform for the crowd.
