'School of Rock' program returning to Gadsden Public Library
Mike Gagliardo, director of the Etowah Youth Orchestra, will offer another installment of his presentations on the history of Rock ‘n’ Roll with School of Rock IV: How I Learned To Stop Worrying & Love My Vinyl, again in collaboration with the Gadsden Public Library.
“We started off in 2007 with School of Rock: The Beginnings Through the ’60s,” said Carol York, the library’s outreach coordinator. “The following year we worked our way from soul music to Springsteen with School of Rock II: Son of School of Rock. And in 2009, we finished up our rock cycle by studying the singer/songwriters of the ‘70s on up to the modern sounds of bands like Arcade Fire with School of Rock III: The Revenge of School of Rock. Mike and I thought our work was done.”
But then Gagliardo suggested delving into the individual tracks of some Grammy-winning albums, and School of Rock IV was born.
“For me, the whole concept was reminiscent of what a lot of us used to do in our teen years,” said York.
“Sit around with friends in the recreation room of our parents’ house, playing records on the hi-fi console, talking about the personal significance of the lyrics of each song on an album. That’s basically what we are going to do for this School of Rock. We’re going to try to recreate that profound connection between the album and the listener. And Mike’s going to do it with real vinyl.”
Gagliardo said, “This class is going to be cool and pure and awesome. We’re talking about rock ‘n’ roll, before it got crushed by ‘the Man’ with little things called Justin Bieber and MTV.”
The School of Rock lecture series will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays from June 21 to July 12 in the library’s Lena Martin Room. Each program will consist of about 45 minutes of lecture followed by a 45-minute track-by-track exploration of some of the greatest albums of the rock era.
The schedule:
Tuesday — Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) by the Beatles.
June 28 — Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970) by Simon & Garfunkel.
July 5 — The Joshua Tree (1987) by U2.
July 12 — Time Out of Mind (1997) by Bob Dylan.
There is no cost to attend the series and brown bags are welcome. For more information, contact York at 256-549-4699, ext. 107.

&Nbsp; And now I will tell you how the lyrics of this song was misinterpreted by me. Honestly, I'm not even sure if misinterpreted is the right word. In the song, John Fogerty was singing about Lodi, California. Something that everyone might not know? There is also a Lodi in New Jersey. The Lodi in New Jersey is where one of the DMV offices is located. When I was a kid, this was the DMV where you had to go to get your car inspected. Suffice it to say, it was not a place people really wanted to go. I remember going there once with my Dad(I think it was probably in the Country Squire station wagon, but that may just be nostalgia), and sitting in a loooooong line of cars for a loooooooong time.
