A HERITAGE OF ITS OWN

The Great Ocean Road, including the Twelve Apostles and Bells Beach, has been placed on Australia’s National Heritage List. It will become one of only 20 of the nation’s most iconic coastal places to achieve this listing, which recognises and protects Australia’s most valued natural, indigenous and historic heritage sites.

“Last year more than 7.5 million visitors from Victoria, interstate and overseas experienced the Great Ocean Road,” Tourism Victoria’s chief executive, Mark Stone, said. “The magnificent Twelve Apostles, the magic of the Otways and the surf villages along the route are a must for many first time visitors to Victoria, and a growing list of new experiences, events and attractions keep people coming back.”

In addition to the famous drive, the Great Ocean Road can also now be explored on foot, thanks to the 104 km Great Ocean Walk, which stretches from Apollo Bay to the Twelve Apostles. Also new to the region is a Zip Line Tour by Otway Fly Tree Top Adventures, where guests enjoy a view of the rainforest as they glide through the air on a suspended cable ride.

RAISE YOUR GLASS

Tourism Victoria has launched King Valley Prosecco Road, a new food and wine trail designed to help visitors discover the pleasures of this Italian white wine in the King Valley of North East Victoria. The King Valley is the very first location in Australia to commercially grow and produce this drop, and it was developed by several wine-making families.

All six wineries along the trail offer intimate food and wine experiences and a taste of locally grown King Valley prosecco. Reflecting the Italian spirit of the region, the experiences are grouped as either Salute , Buon Appetito or Buona Notte and cover aperitifs and cocktails, dining and accommodation.

For example, visitors can take a tour of the Chrismont vineyard and sign up for a Prosecco Masterclass, compare tipples at Brown Brothers while eating a picnic of house-made Charcuterie on the lawn, or savour this wine with chocolate fondue at Ciccone estate. Over at Dal Zotto, visitors can play a game of bocce and enjoy a glass of prosecco, while at the new Pizzini cellar door they can sample a range of foods made using this wine.

SEE EGYPTIAN ROYALTY

Prior to the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922, the world was unfamiliar with this now legendary pharaoh. King Tut reigned for only nine years or so and died in his late teens, but has become famous the world over because his tomb was uncovered in almost perfect condition.
